Kidding.Sort of.The sex is undeniably hot. Kinky, c*** choking, dirty talk, begging, wrecked out bottom, prostate orgasm, orgasm denial; Turner came to play!Jaime and Kyle are both military which is something else I like. There is a bit of a size difference between them, so another box ticked there.But here's the deal, there's someone else that I like a whole lot who does all this stuff and does it better, IMO. She also builds a relationship while building intrigue, suspense, what have you. Cordelia KingsbridgeI couldn't help but compare and actually a lot of it I feel like I've read before. NOT that I'm accusing anyone of plagiarism. I am just saying. Hella similar.As hot as they are, I don't have a connection with them. Things started off well enough with them being hot for each other and having a one night stand. Both purport not to be interested in anything serious and don't exchange numbers. The next thing I knew Jaime's alphaing out on Kyle while he's trying to hook up after Jaime put the kibosh on any continued shenanigans. Because fraternization rules and Jaime being his CO. Ok. I figured they'd find a way to sneak in some hibbity gibbity anyways because blurb. But then they're basically living together after, like, 2 trips to Pound Town?!?!?They undoubtedly have sexual chemistry but there's zippity do dah in the way of relationship development. If Jaime's magic peen goes on the fritz I give these two zero chance of going the distance.Aside from their relaysh, the missions were pretty fun. S*** gets blown up. People get kilt. TENSIONS WERE HIGH! These metahumans have some cool tricks up their sleeves and their unit is definitely close knit.The worldbuilding is sort of patchy? The metahumans seem to be carrying the lion's share of the worldbuilding because aside from putting the prefix "mega" in front of city names I didn't really notice a difference. They even still drive regular cars. Not even flying cars. #sadLastly, this thing are loooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggg. Do not believe that page count on GR. WEB OF LIES!I liked it well enough to continue on to the next one. Not right away, mind you, but at some point. If for no other reason that to try to figure out why some people are immune to the Splice virus while others die from exposure.Recommend to people who enjoy porn with very leeetle, like a smidge, of plot. Plot-liters, if you will. I bought and read each of the "Soulbound" series books by Haley Turner, and that series and story was so very good!! So, I thought I'd check out the authors earlier "Metahuman Files" series.Luckily I only bought the first book of the series having learned my lesson with past series orders.I looked forward to reading the Metahuman Files series, and found that once again, the author tells a really good story. As with the Soulbound series, at times, the excitement and suspense of the story was definitely a page turner. And, the relationship between the two main character guys seemed that they would become loving and more than sexual.Unfortunately, during the story, every time these main characters were alone together, the reader has to wade through almost chapter long, graphic, play by play sex scenes, over and over and over again. It became ridiculous.Each time I'd read through a great suspenseful or exciting part of the story, I'd have to skim and skip pages and pages of porn.It's not as if I don't like a good sex scene on occasion, but I read gay fiction for the romanticism and love stories that develop amidst hardships and adventure. If I wanted to read PORN, I'd buy explicit pornography texts.I put each of the other 5 Metahuman Files series books in my Amazon Wish List. And even with the continual porn, the story was addicting and very well written, so I just could not decide whether I wanted to continue reading this series or not.As this story ended, I decided, to just buy each of the other books in the series and skip and skim over the pages and pages and pages of graphic sex scenes in favor of the story itself. However, I told myself that I'd see if the author ended this story with a loving connection between the two main characters, or, if she ended it with yet another chapter long sex scene.Disappointingly the author ends this story, with yet another sex diatribe. And even more disappointing was that her graphic sexual descriptions were getting more and more kinky as they progressed, but in the end, the Dom/Sub tone and connection was just too much for me. I'm a normal guy sexually, I'm not into kinks, I'm just a romantic idealist kind of guy who likes gay action, adventure and scifi.I decided to forgo the purchase the remaining Metahuman Files books, and maybe I'll never purchase anything from this author again. We'll see.
